Taking a walk round your community you will realise how busy laundry and dry cleaners are especially during weekends and festive periods in Africa and the world at large.
Have you thought of how much you can make on a daily basis by rendering this service (washing and ironing) to your costumers?
I took some time to observe this business and found out that it is really a very lucrative venture that one can make millions out of. This research made me realise that costumers pay nothing less that four hundred naira (#400, over 1 dollars) for just washing and ironing a dress, while in some cities like abuja, Lagos or Rivers, it ranges from a thousand naira to two thousand naira(#1,000-#2,000, $3-$6) excluding suits, full traditional attire, duvet, or bedspreads which is about four thousand naira(#4,000 $12) for a set.
A Brief Feasibility study
Look at this: Assuming you wash and iron up to 20 dresses, 2 suits, a duvet daily that means you will be making 20×400=8000 for dress
2×1000=2000 for suit
1×2000=2000 for duvet
That will sum up to 8000+2000+2000=#12000 daily.
Multiply 12000×30 for a month that is #360000 over $1,000 a month
NB: You can put someone in charge of the business while you be the financier or you can decide to run it yourself and employ one or more persons depending on the size of the business.
What is Laundry?
This is the act of washing which ranges from clothes, to dishes and other items.
By the virtue of this writing, I will not just be talking about washing generally but I will be tailoring it down to handling of fabrics. That is, washing and ironing of fabrics and linen and other cotton/clothes for the sole aim of making money.
Laundry is also seen as a place, or room where washing is done commercially.
Laundry can be done in two ways which are:
1. Convectional way. That is the use of hands or manual washing of clothes.
2. Modern way. This has to do with the use of machines which aid in washing and makes it easier and faster.
The total population of the world is estimated at 7 billion people while Africa is estimated at 1.225 billion that is about 17% of the world total population and a reasonable percentage of this population rarely have time to do their own laundry as they are engaged in one busy schedule or the other daily from 8 in the morning to 4 in the evening 5 times in a week.
This sect and of course everyone loves the great feeling of putting on a smooth, neatly handled, washed and well ironed clothes always and the mood derived from this feeling is so fine and difficult to resist.
This is why laundry service will continually boom and make billions from people who can’t wash their dirty clothes.
Here are the things you need to put in place.
1. Location of Shop or Office Address.
Just like every formal business, laundry business needs a station, an office or location where people can easily locate you for your service. This is more like an office where you attend to costumers, collect and deliver service to them. This shop will also house and protect your equipments, materials and other valuables.
In getting a shop, ensure you get a good location with great traffic where people can always see often and will not forget to check in.
However, When looking out for a good location, ensure you select an area that is easily accessible and close to apartments and numerous buildings because this will help you attract customers who don’t have washing machines and also the sect who don’t have the time to wash their fabrics because of their busy schedules and work.
The best locations are usually in serious trafficked areas. Your costumers will grow easily in high trafficked areas than in a scanty and quiet neighbourhood.
Advertising your service with a clear and bold sign board where a lot of motorist ply.
You can also secure a location close to private estates and probably close to a relaxation spot where there are enough influx of people. This can also help you grow your business when they start patronising you.
Avoid saturated location. Location with enough laundry service will be difficult to capture unless you are fit for such competition.

With the inclination in technology, one can easily get a laundry machine and other equipment at a reduced rate.

Having a Spacious ironing environment will make your job faster, convenient and more comfortable, it will give you sense of balance and relaxed mind.
